On Jan. 11, second graders at Parkway Elementary School in East Meadow teamed up to track down the legendary artifacts of the “King’s Request” as part of the school’s Submerge Storytelling program.
Leading the experience was program founder Cory Levine, who transformed one of the school’s classrooms into a “realm” where students were able to explore the story world of “Trevor Cool” to draw conclusions about the story’s characters, plot and themes.
The multifaceted lesson taught students important life skills and values through text-to-self literary connections, and it employed interactive learning strategies to foster a sense of individuality, camaraderie and community.
