Village officials and local veteran organizations held an indoor Memorial Day service at East Rockaway Jr./Sr. High School, as East Rockaway’s annual Memorial Day parade was canceled Monday due of inclement weather.
The Village of East Rockaway announced the cancellation on social media Monday morning, stating that the parade would not take place due to weather conditions. Officials encouraged residents to attend the indoor service, which began at 10 a.m. at the high school on Ocean Avenue.
The ceremony brought together residents, veterans and community leaders to honor and remember the men and women who died while serving in the United States military. The annual observance is traditionally hosted by American Legion Post No. 958 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3350.
