East Rockaway elementary students will return to classrooms this fall with a new math curriculum, as the district prepares to launch Eureka Math² for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
Superintendent James DeTommaso announced the rollout during the Board of Education’s Aug. 18 meeting, saying teachers have been preparing for the change since last spring.
“We started professional development last spring for our teaching staff, and we want to ensure that when students walk in the door in September that they’re fully prepared,” DeTommaso said.
The new program was selected through a committee process and will be implemented across the district’s elementary grades beginning with the 2026-27 school year.
“We’re very excited about what the Eureka Math program is going to do for the students in East Rockaway,” DeTommaso said.
The rollout comes as district administrators finish preparations for the new school year. DeTommaso said administrative planning is nearly complete and that the district is looking forward to welcoming students back and continuing its partnerships with parents, teachers and administrators.
