Lynbrook firefighters responded to a house fire at 10 Marshall Ave. on April 16 at approximately 5:12 p.m., under the direction of Chief Clayton Murphy.
According to department spokesman Steve Grogan, the chief quickly transmitted a Signal 10 for a working fire upon arrival. Crews found flames in the rear driveway that had begun spreading up the exterior wall of the two-story home.
Vulcan Company was first to arrive and stretched a hose line into the driveway before connecting to a hydrant across from Sherman Street. With assistance from Engine Company members, firefighters worked to contain the fire outside before advancing the line into the home, where flames had reached the second floor.
A second hose line was used to extinguish remaining hot spots in the driveway area, while Truck Company members removed sections of siding to check for hidden fire extension.
Mutual aid was provided by neighboring Fourth Battalion departments, as well as Valley Stream and Hewlett. The fire was brought under control without any reported injuries, and crews remained on scene until about 6:30 p.m. The cause is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire displaced the Stark family, including Pete Stark, a longtime New York City Police Department veteran who served for 25 years. A fundraiser has been organized to assist the family with temporary housing and recovery efforts. Those wishing to contribute can visit: FundTheFirst.com/campaign/10-13-for-stark-family-hnbgqe.
