The Lynbrook Police Department has stepped up enforcement against loud and modified vehicle exhaust systems following resident complaints, issuing 89 summonses so far this summer.

During the July 13 village board meeting, Police Chief Brian Paladino said officers have focused enforcement efforts on vehicles with illegally modified mufflers and exhaust systems after receiving complaints about excessive noise along Ocean Avenue.

“We’ve gotten 89 summonses written for that section alone,” Paladino said. “I’ve actually noticed a bit of a difference because I tend to sleep with my windows open and you’re hearing a little less and less.”

Mayor Alan Beach voiced his support for the department’s efforts, joking that officers are taking action when they encounter violators.

“Well, we’re looking at them now and we’re writing them something,” Beach said.

Paladino said the department plans to continue enforcement throughout the summer to address quality-of-life concerns raised by residents.

“We’re going to keep up with it all summer,” he said.
