Members of Temple Am Echad in Lynbrook joined thousands of participants from across the region on May 31 for the annual Israel Day Parade along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
According to congregant and past temple president Ira Blumstein, the Manhattan Israel Day Parade is the largest Jewish solidarity march in the world. This year’s event brought together people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate their shared heritage and support for the State of Israel.
“In these turbulent times where there is a significant decrease in public support for Israel and a marked rise in public anti-Semitism, we marched down Fifth Avenue as proud Americans and proud Zionists,” Blumstein wrote in an email. “Young and old, traditional and secular, we joined together to celebrate our love for our heritage and for the state of Israel.”
Temple Am Echad members marched behind the congregation’s banner, carrying Israeli and American flags alongside fellow supporters. Blumstein described the event as a joyful and peaceful expression of solidarity and thanked the New York City Police Department for providing security throughout the day.
Temple Am Echad, located in Lynbrook, serves families throughout the South Shore and regularly hosts religious, educational and community programs for members of all ages.
