An academic year’s new beginnings

Posted

School bells have begun to toll at Hewlett High School, ringing in the new school year. Excitement fills the hallways, from freshmen adjusting to a new environment to experienced seniors ready for their last year of high school.

The 2022-2023 year marks a fresh start for students, as well as a fresh start for Alexandra Greenberg, the new principal of Hewlett High.

Greenberg has been looking forward to the new school year ever since she began interviewing for her position. “Before I started my interview process in January, I heard that our students were incredible,” she said. “During my interviewing process and the subsequent visits to the school, I had an opportunity to get a sneak peek into exactly what this meant.”

She has made an active effort to interact with students, even before the school year’s beginning. A meet and greet was organized for students to introduce themselves and provided a valuable opportunity for Greenberg to get to know the students.

“I can attest that Hewlett High School students are not like any other students that I have met in my fourteen years of experience,” she said. “They are incredible thinkers, leaders, friends, and local and global citizens that practice inclusivity. Our students are also well versed in the skills needed to succeed in our diverse community and seem to understand the importance of maximizing our vast opportunities.”

In preparation for the new school year, students had many opportunities to engage in school events. Freshmen Focus introduced the incoming students to Hewlett High, with the opportunity to tour the school, get their new IDs and learn how to use their Chromebooks.

On the first day of school, seniors also had a special event: the traditional Senior Sunrise. Organized by the PTA, the Senior Sunrise was an opportunity for seniors to celebrate their “last first” with breakfast and senior T-shirts.

As students settle into the school rhythm, Greenberg looks forward to the rest of the school year. “While the first few weeks we are focusing on the post-pandemic protocols, I cannot wait to get to know them in greater depth and have an opportunity for the high school community to understand my vision as a principal,” she said. “As a principal, my goal is to serve our community and create a positive impact on our high school as a whole.”
We welcome the new principal and all the students at Hewlett High for another amazing school year!
