Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick leads Griffin in 21 Assembly District

In an election that took place during a pandemic and saw a record-breaking amount of voters cast mail-in ballots nationwide, incumbent Republican Melissa “Missy” Miller defeated Democrat Hewlett resident Gregory Marks, a Democrat, in the 20th Assembly District. Miller earned her third two-year term in the assembly with the victory. Miller was grateful for receiving another term.

"I am so happy to be given the opportunity to continue to serve the amazing people of the 20th district,” Miller said in a statement. “It is truly an honor and I will continue to make all voices heard.

In the 21st Assembly District, Republican challenger Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick holds a slim lead over Democrat Assemblywoman Judy Griffin.

Ninth district State Sen. Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Beach) won re-election over Republican challenger Victoria Johnson. This is Kaminsky’s third term in the Senate. “It’s really gratifying to have the voters of the South Shore send me back,” he said, adding that a few years ago none of Long Islands nine senators were Democrats. Now there are five.

Fourth Congressional District incumbent Kathleen Rice, a Democrat from Garden City defeated challenger Douglas Tuman. This will be Rice’s fourth term.

Veteran Rep. Gregory Meeks, a Democrat from Southwest Queens who represents the 5th Congressional District, was re-elected for his 12th term. Meeks ran unopposed.

Assemblywoman Michele Solages, a Democrat, decisively won re-election over Republican challenger Nicholas M. Zacchea in the 22nd Assembly District. This will be Solages fourth term in the assembly.
