An elderly woman was rescued from a house fire at 643 June Avenue in North Woodmere on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m., by a pair of good Samaritans, Hewlett Fire Chief Ethan Lahey said.

The woman was taken out of the home before 55 firefighters from the Hewlett, Woodmere, Lawrence-Cedarhurst and Valley Stream fire departments arrived on the scene. She was taken to Nassau University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The good Samaritans also suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Declared under control 30 minutes later, the fire severely damaged the two-story house.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal investigated and determined the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction in the bedroom. Three fire departments, Meadowmere, Lynbrook and East Rockaway served as standby units for the responding departments.
