College students honored for academic achievement

Sofia Barone and Danielle Simon, both of Hewlett were two of more than 1,000 students named to the fall 2018 dean’s list at Muhlenberg College. They were recognized for their academic excellence and achievements.

Wilkes University awarded 384 bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees to students who completed the required degree requirements at the end of the 2018 fall semester. Nancy Sanon, of Woodmere, received a doctor of nursing practice in nursing degree.

At the University of Scranton, Kristen Kelly, from Atlantic Beach, and Louis Jan of Inwood, were among the nearly 1,600 students placed on the dean’s list for the 2018 fall semester.

Kelly is a sophomore majoring in health administration in the university’s Panuska College of Professional Studies. Jan, a senior, is a finance major in the school’s Kania School of Management. To earn the honor, students must attain a grade-point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours.

The University of Albany announced its dean’s list of Distinguished Students for the fall 2018 semester. Among those recognized were Jalen Isaac and Jonathan Matza, both of Hewlett, Christina Alexandre and Zachary Kramer, both of Lawrence, and Ariel Spielman, from Woodmere. To qualify for this distinction, students must earn a GPA of 3.25 or higher during their first semester of study, and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during subsequent semesters.

Brian Katz, of Hewlett, was named to Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s dean’s list for the fall semester. The freshman is majoring in robotics engineering. WPI’s dean’s list criteria is based on the amount of work completed at the “A” level in courses and projects.
