End of school festivities are on

Posted

Hewlett High School’s end of year festivities have been the talk of our hallways the past few weeks. Award and honor society ceremonies, as well as graduation excitement – students have had much to look forward to as summer approaches.

Although end of year ceremonies look different than previous years, our Hewlett High staff has worked tirelessly to rightly recognize our students for their accomplishments. This year, unfortunately, no honorees could be in attendance.

Instead, each honor society advisor was allotted a date and time to record their ceremony, with the option of inviting their student Executive Board to join them. After recording, the video was live streamed on YouTube for all community members to watch; all ceremonies are available to stream on the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools website.

The Foreign Language, Business and Marketing, Art, National Honor, Thespian, and Science honor societies induction ceremonies have been livestreamed. The Modern Music Masters Induction Ceremony and Community Recognition, Senior Music and Athletics Awards will be livestreamed in the next three weeks.

Although students did not get to enjoy walking across the stage or reciting their honor society pledges live, they were thankful for each advisor’s dedication to make their ceremonies special.

“I was extremely impressed by all of the live streamed events I attended virtually. Despite the difficulties of this year, our teachers and administrators still made it a point to acknowledge students' achievements as they have in years past,” said senior Ilan Goldberg. “From behind computer screens, school has been harder than ever this year, so it was really great to see that our hard work did not go unnoticed.”

In addition to inductions and awards, the seniors are preparing for the four graduation ceremonies we have this year. There will be two ceremonies on Wednesday, June 23 and two on Thursday, June 24, at 9 a.m. and noon. The ceremonies are being organized by the guidance counselors, and only two tickets will be given to each student.

Class of 2021 President Logan Swerdloff is “so excited to speak in front of the senior class at graduation. We had a crazy year, but we were able to get through it, and thankfully we are ending the year with a prom and graduation. Students cannot be more grateful for that.”

Hewlett High School students have nothing but thanks to give to all who have been involved in making this year’s end of year as special as those previous.
