HAFTR holds 35th commencement ceremony

York College in Queens was the setting for the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway’s (HAFTR) 35th high school commencement ceremony on June 19, where 112 graduated from the school that was known as HILI (Hebrew Institute of Long Island) prior to 1979 before it merged with the Lawrence-based Hillel Institute a year earlier.
The class of 2014 included 112 students who will be attending a wide array of colleges ranging from the Ivy League schools such as Harvard, Princeton, Columbia and Dartmouth to Cooper Union, Johns Hopkins, Barnard, Brandeis, Fashion Institute of Technology, Yeshiva University and IDC Herzliya in Israel.
HAFTR valedictorian Miriam Friedman, salutatorian Samantha Lish and Kulanu student David Stroh were the featured speakers.
