Hewlett’s Homecoming was a happy one, as not only was there sunny skies for the parade on Sept. 22, but the varsity football team rallied for a 26-13 victory over Glen Cove in a Nassau III Conference game, the Bulldogs’ first win of the season, in the team’s home opener.
A 6-yard touchdown run by quarterback Matt Weiss and Sam Rovener’s two-point plunge capped a 26-point fourth quarter come back. Weiss gained 67 yards on nine carries and completed 7 of 10 passes for 76 yards and a TD. Senior running back Vinny Morello had a Saquon Barkley-like day with 110 all-purpose yards, including 66 yards rushing and an 8-yard score.
