Five Towns native and former magazine publishing executive Kim Pinto died of respiratory failure on Jan. 31. She was 54.

Born on Dec. 20, 1956, Pinto grew up in North Woodmere and attended Lawrence schools, Syracuse University and New York University.

She held several sales and management positions with companies such as Condé Nast Publications and Hearst Magazines. Recently, she was partners with her mother in Kim & Roberta, Inc., a fashion manufacturing company.

Pinto was delighted by seeing the product evolve from concept to reality and seeing women wear their designs. She also enjoyed traveling around the world for business and pleasure, and soaking in the essence of many different cultures.

Family members said that her smile was one of her many engaging qualities. She was a unique and beautiful person inside and out. Her love of life was contagious and memorable.

“She left her mark on many, many lives in her short time here,” her father Dr. Eugene Pinto said. “This incredible woman has blessed us, and we cannot imagine our lives without her.”

Pinto served on the board of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, volunteered with the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and assisted both women and men who suffered self-esteem issues due to the current recession.

“She volunteered tirelessly to causes she held dear,” Dr. Pinto said.

Pinto is survived by her mother and father, brother Ronald Pinto, nephews Brett and Brandon and niece Brittany Pinto, sister-in-law Alyse Pinto, an aunt, Vanessa Pinto and grandparents Harriet and Phillip Foster and Dr. and Mrs. B.N. Pinto.

A funeral service was held on Feb. 5. Donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Special thanks to Drs. Harry Spiera, Joel Kreitzer, Valentine Fuster, Oren Devinsky, Luis DePalo, A. Patel and Alexandra Heerdt.
