While many people were preparing for the Super Bowl, others gathered at Congregation Sons of Israel in Woodmere last Sunday for a benefit concert performed by Alicia Svigals and her Klezmer Fiddle Express and Steven Weintraub.

The sixth annual concert benefited the Five Towns-based SULAM-LI organization that helps Jewish children with special needs. Founded in 2004, the group is based out of Congregation Sons of Israel. The concert also featured the voices of the Brandeis School Choir.

In addition, the Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre, Reconstructionist Congregation Beth Emeth, Temple Am Echad, Temple Beth-El, Temple Hillel and Temple Israel are other congregations involved in assisting SULAM-LI. Approximately $20,000 was raised from the event.
