Inwood resident Mary Kuzda died on Oct. 4. She was 85.

Born to Rosaria and Pasqualle Mingolla in upstate Amsterdam on April 18, 1928, her family moved to Inwood later that year.

She graduated Lawrence High School in 1946, and one year later married Paul “Joe” Kuzda. They lived in the Arverne section of Queens for a short time, then returned to Inwood in 1952.

A waitress for 40 years, first at the Shell House in Island Park, and later at Goldie’s Restaurant in the Gibson section of Valley Stream, Kuzda also loved to be in the kitch and use her culinary skills.

“You could always find her in the kitchen; she loved to cook and bake. She’d bake cookies until three in the morning on Christmas Eve!” said grandson Peter Kuzda Jr.

Kuzda was predeceased by her husband, Paul; her son, Richard and sisters, Emily DeSibio and Egeria Berryman. She is survived by sons Donald of Oceanside and Peter of Los Angeles; five grandchildren, Peter, Paul, Chelsey, Kathleen and Anthoney; brother Ernie Mingolla of Inwood; and many nieces and nephews.

A wake was held at Meserole Funeral Home in Inwood on Oct. 6. A mass of Christian burial was held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, also in Inwood. She was interred at Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale on Oct. 7.
