NCJW Peninsula Section champions the cause for better understanding

Lawrence-based group holds Jewish-Muslim relationships forum

To create a better understanding between the Jewish and Muslim religions, the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), Peninsula Section hosted the program, The program, “Muslim Women: Many Faces, Many Voices” at the Lawrence Yacht and Country Club, March 20.

The program featured an international boutique and a panel discussion with five Muslim women from the Westbury-based Domestic Harmony Foundation. The women spoke about their experiences and knowledge about the role of women on Islam and how cultural interpretations sometimes overtake the teachings of the faith.

Topics during the discussion ranged from Challenges of American Muslim women in raising families, scriptural rights of Muslim women, and interpretation and cultural influences upon the lives of Muslim women.

The NCJW is a volunteer organization that has championed social change and the needs of women, children and families throughout its 75 years. DHF is a not-for profit organization dedicated to serving the needs of domestic violence victims by offering a safe space for social, psychological and legal support to its clients.
