Along Bayswater Boulevard, Chestnut Street, David Avenue, Peppe Drive and Walnut Road in Inwood 3,500 feet of new eight-inch ductile iron water main and 1,000 feet of six-inch water main will be installed by New York American Water. The project, which costs $950,000 NYAW officials said, will also replace seven fire hydrants and 80 utility-owned services.

The work is scheduled to begin on Aug. 26, weather permitting, and take roughly seven weeks to complete. Final road restoration will be completed by the Town of Hempstead’s road raising project. Work will be done between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours. NYAW said it will coordinate with homeowners to minimize disruptions.

“New York American Water is committed to upgrading our infrastructure and replacing aging water main is an important part of that commitment,” NYAW Director of Engineering John Kilpatrick stated in a news release. “Modernizing our water distribution system improves water quality as well as system pressures for our customers.”

NYAW provides wastewater services to nearly 335,000 people. Residents with a concern or question about the planned work is encouraged to call NYAW customer service center at (877) 426-6999.
