Remembering the anniversary of 9/11

Community members stood solemnly, volunteer firefighters saluted and local clergy and elected officials spoke words of somber remembrance as the Village of Cedarhurst hosted its annual 9/11 ceremony in Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park on Sept. 11.

Eleven years ago on that Tuesday, terrorists hijacked four American planes and killed 3,000 people in coordinated attacks that brought down three World Trade Center building, damaged the Pentagon and had passengers attacking the hijackers on a plane that crashed in Shanksville, Pa.

Mayor Andrew Parise introduced speakers that included Rev. Msgr. Paul Rahilly of St. Joachim R.C. Church, Rabbi Kenneth Hain of Congregation Beth Shalom in Lawrence, State Sen. Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) and former Nassau County legislator Bruce Blakeman.
