Longtime Five Towns resident Robert C. “Rob” Norman, who was the type of person to help anyone and share what he had, died at his home in Peachtree City, Ga., on Oct. 2. He was 89.

Born on Dec. 23, 1926, Norman grew up in Inwood and graduated from Lawrence High School. He moved to Woodmere and that is where he and his wife, Victoria (Tory), raised their three children.

A World War II veteran who served in the army, Norman was a “respected” mechanic for Ford, according to his daughter, Katherine Seery. He also worked as a manager for the Steinway Bus Company. For many years he maintained the tournament truck used in firematic competitions by the Woodmere Fire Department.

As a boater, he belonged to the Keystone Yacht Club in Woodmere, and his other hobbies included golf, furniture making, fishing and vegetable gardening.

In 1989, Norman and Tory retired to Mountain Rest, S.C., where he was a member of a Veterans of Foreign Wars post. Sometime later the couple moved to Peachtree.

“He was a kind man that was always willing to help others, whether with their cars, home repairs or sharing his vegetable crop without expecting anything in return,” Katherine said. “He will be missed by all that knew him, especially his family and friends.”

Norman is survived by his wife, of 68 years, Victoria, his three children, Katherine (Nicholas), Robert and Brian (Michele), two granddaughters, Jennifer (Erik), Erika (Christopher) and three great grandsons, Carson Powell and Charlie and Liam Cooper.

His memorial Mass was held at Holy Trinity Church in Georgia.
