Cedarhurst resident Dorothy Plavin had strong social values

Dorothy Plavin, an 18-year Cedarhurst resident, died on Dec. 23. She was 97.

Plavin was born in Brooklyn and attended Girls High School. Her daughter Nancy describes her as a loving mother. “She had strong social values,” Nancy said.

As a 12-year National Council of Jewish Women Peninsula Section volunteer, Plavin worked in the organization’s thrift store on Central Avenue in Lawrence.

Services were held on Dec. 26 at Boulevard-Riverside Chapel in Hewlett and Plavin was interred at New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon.

She is survived by Nancy Fine (Gerald), Isabel Remstein (Donald), Marc Plavin (Toni, Alison, Rachel), David Remstein (Elaine, Daniel, Alex), Karen Rosenberg (Eric), Michelle, Matthew, Eric Fine (Andrea, Jaden), Debbie Bertalozi (Mike, Jack, Sasha) and Michael Fine (Lisa, Indie, Sunny).
