SIBSPlace marks the holidays

Celebrating the holidays this past season was made a bit more difficult by Hurricane Sandy, but SIBSPlace, a Hewlett-based program of South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, that serves children ages 5-17 living with a sibling or parent who has cancer or another serious or devastating illness, held a Thanksgiving feast a little more than three weeks after the storm and the hospital had its holiday party in December.

At the Thanksgiving feast, many of the SIBS children who attend its free sibling support program and their siblings marked the holiday and shared what they were most grateful for during the year.

Santa Claus and two of his elves handed out gifts at the hospital party. The presents were collected from SIBS friends in the community who “adopted” a SIBS kid or a sibling to help make their holiday special.
