Two separate fire alarms sounded at Hewlett High School on Feb. 28, according to Hewlett-Woodmere district officials in a pair of posts.

The first post: "Several minutes ago, the smell of smoke in a classroom set off the fire alarm at HHS. All students and staff members have been safely evacuated from the building.

"The fire department is at HHS and assessing the situation. We will update you as soon as as additional information is available."

Roughly two hours later another post followed: "Once again, the smell of smoke in a classroom has set off the fire alarm at HHS. All students & staff members have been safely evacuated from the building. The fire department is on their way. We will update you as soon as additional information is available. "

District spokeswoman Barbara Giese said it is unclear what caused the smoke, the situation is under control and there was no damage or anything found that was related to the smoke.
