The club’s ‘mayor’ will be missed

Anthony “Tony” Curra, a former Inwood resident, who was living in Port St. Lucie, Fla. died on May 2. He was 55.

After retiring from Sanitation District 1, Curra became the “Mayor” of the Savannah Club in Port St. Lucie. He was a member of the Italian-American Club and captain of the Bocci team. He was a three-time champ of the Texas Hold-em tournaments. Curra was an avid tennis player and soon became the local “pro.”

He will be forever in our hearts, family and friends wrote.

Curra was the devoted son of the late Giovanni and Domenica. Beloved brother of Nicky, Pat, Vinny, Louie, Marina Manzo, Rosa Vacchio and the late Jennifer. He was also a loving brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Annmarie (Capobianco), daughter Elizabeth and son Anthony.

A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 68 Wanser Ave. in Inwood, on May 25 at 10 a.m. As per his wishes, any donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
