Tornadoes advance in playoffs

Behind seniors Kenny Barnett, John Kinder and Joel Santisteban, Lawrence rolled to a 33-3 victory at Manhasset last Friday night in a Nassau Conference III football playoff game.

Barnett rushed for 215 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries and caught a touchdown pass from Kinder, who added two rushing touchdowns. Barnett’s rushing scores came from 75 and 73 yards out, and his 30-yard touchdown grab put Lawrence up 20-3 just before halftime. Santisteban led a strong defensive effort with 13 tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery.

The third-seeded Golden Tornadoes (7-2) advanced to meet No. 2 Plainedge (8-1) in a semifinal game at Hofstra this Saturday at 10 a.m. The Red Devils beat Lawrence in the semifinals in 2008 and also took this year’s regular-season meeting in come-from-behind fashion, 38-21, on Oct. 24.
