For more than 30 years, attendees of what was called the Trade School have held a reunion at the Five Towns Community Center in Lawrence on the site where the Trade School existed.

The Trade School was a recreational and educational center where toddlers through teens from the Five Towns area could come and learn a skill like photography or cooking, or just relax and play ping-pong or cards with some friends.

Last Saturday, the Trade School Reunion Committee, comprised of individuals who attended activities and participated in the programs, held another one of their reunions, which they do at the end of July.

“We work together as a team to provide support and give back to our community,” said Pat Jones, an Inwood resident who serves as president of the committee.

An office service class Jones took at the Trade School 30 years helped propel her into her career. She is an administrator for the Long Island Rail Road.

As part of their mission to give back to the community, Jones and her comrades raise money through various fundraisers such as their annual Valentine’s Disco to present scholarships. At the reunion up to seven Lawrence High School graduates receive monetary awards from the Reunion Committee.
