Woodmere-Lawrence church closes its doors

Before the Woodmere-Lawrence Methodist church held its final service on June 24, there was a closing sale for Attic Treasures, an antique shop in the basement of the church, and Heavenly Treasures thrift store in the adjacent building.

On June 9, furniture, glassware, antiques, clothing and household items were for sale at the 1023 Broadway location.

The church was built in 1871 and once boasted 150 members as recently as 2003 but after membership began to decline, the church was forced to shut its doors. Rev. Wendy Steed, the church’s pastor, said a decline in interest in the Methodist faith also contributed to the shrinking congregation.
