Trimz Barber Shop, located on Guy Lombardo Avenue in Freeport, was honored by Town of Hempstead Councilman Chris Schneider for its continuous service to the community, particularly to the village’s children.

Leon Levar Broughton, owner of Trimz, received a special certificate from Schneider a few weeks after the barbershop held its 21st Trimz Cutz for EDU event on Aug. 22. The distinction was a part of Schneider’s “small business spotlight,” which he acknowledged in a Facebook post about Trimz.

“Trimz has been serving Freeport for nearly 30 years and this small business gives back in a big way,” Schneider wrote. “The [Trimz Cutz for EDU] program has donated thousands of free back-to-school haircuts and school supplies to children, giving them confidence to start a new school year. They’ve also supported numerous community organizations, including the Freeport Little League and award scholarships to students.”

Schneider concluded, stating that it was “wonderful” to see the team led by Broughton support their local community, while encouraging town residents to shop at and support local businesses.
