Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé, whose district includes Freeport, was sworn in for a fifth term representing Nassau County Legislature District 6 during inaugural ceremonies held on Jan. 8 at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Uniondale.

Mulé took the oath of office alongside her Democratic Caucus colleagues before an audience of family members, friends and supporters. New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli administered the oath. At the start of the ceremony, Mulé also led the hundreds in attendance in singing the National Anthem.

The swearing-in ceremony marked the official start of the new legislative term for Nassau County lawmakers. The event drew elected officials, civic leaders and residents from across the county.

District 6 includes significant portions of Oceanside and Baldwin as well as the entire village of Freeport. Mulé has represented the district since first being elected in 2015 and currently serves as alternate deputy minority leader, a leadership role within the Legislature’s Democratic caucus.

Following the ceremony, Mulé expressed gratitude to residents for their continued support and reaffirmed her commitment to public service.

“I am deeply humbled that the communities of District 6 have once again entrusted me with the privilege of representing them, and I will do everything in my power to make government work better and more equitably for the people of Nassau County,” Mulé said.

She also looked ahead to the new legislative term, emphasizing collaboration and progress.

“Working together, I know that we will accomplish great things in 2026, and I cannot wait to continue this journey of service alongside you,” Mulé said.

As she begins her fifth term, Mulé is expected to continue focusing on issues affecting her South Shore district, including infrastructure, public safety and economic development, while advocating for policies aimed at promoting equity and effective local governance.
