Freeport firefighters hold car and firetruck wash fundraiser

Posted

Members of the Freeport Fire Department hosted a car and firetruck wash on the Nautical Mile. The event helped raise funds for the department and its volunteer firefighters.

The annual fundraiser was led out by Freeport’s Fire Hose Five Fort Apache firehouse, stationed on Leonard Avenue in Freeport, on Sept. 19. The event had originally been scheduled for Sept. 13, but had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

For about four hours, residents and other supporters came down to Freeport’s Nautical Mile to get their vehicles scrubbed and washed by the volunteer firefighters. Costs of $20 per car and $25 for sports utility vehicles were charged.

This fundraiser was one of several done by a Freeport firehouse this year. Hundreds attended a car and bike show at the Vigilant Hose Company Number Two on Broadway.

A sequel event, the Spooktacular 5.0 Haunted Car Show, will be hosted at the same location on Oct. 18 from noon to 5 p.m. featuring a costume contest, giveaways and more. Tickets to spectate start at $10, tickets for vendors and drivers seeking to display their rides can be purchased online at tickets.thefoat.com/teamexit.
