Four displaced in Freeport house fire

At approximately 7:06 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, the Freeport Fire Department responded to a fire at a two-story private property on Suffolk Street near Miller Avenue in Freeport. 

The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes with about 50 firefighters on the scene.  Assisting the Freeport Fire Department were firefighters from the Baldwin, Roosevelt, Hempstead and Merrick fire departments. 

One civilian suffered smoke inhalation and was transported by ambulance to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital. Four residents have been displaced due to the fire. 

All firefighting operations were under the command of Chief Michael Gordon of the Freeport Fire Department. 

The Village of Freeport Building Department was on the scene to assess damage to the structure. 

Nassau County Fire Marshal Investigators and the Nassau County Police Department Arson/Bomb Squad Detectives were also on the scene working to determine the cause of the fire, according to Nicholas Corrado, deputy county fire coordinator from the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office.
