Photographer, visual artist and Long Island native Peter “Pete” Coco has brought some of his works to the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport’s Art Alcove showcase this month. The showcase, held in the Freeport Recreation Center, displays some of the work Coco has expressed a passion for while snapping images throughout Long Island and New York City.
Coco says his earliest memories involve art of various forms, including drawing, painting and making music. In high school and college he developed a love and knack for photography before eventually entering the professional photo industry.
He has been able to blend his musical and photographical interests by becoming a staff photographer for the world’s most recorded jazz bassist, Ron Carter. Through this opportunity, Coco has gone on to shoot at a multitude of venues while going through New York’s jazz scene.
Coco says that he ultimately strives to “tell a story with his images,” which he believes he is able to uniquely do, being a jazz musician himself.
Coco’s photography will be in the Art Alcove during the month of September. The Long Island Arts Council at Freeport anticipates being able to announce a reception date for the exhibit soon.
