Your ideas, energy and dedication will make a difference.
– Fia Davis, Superintendent of Freeport Public Schools

Freeport Public Schools opened their doors to students for the first time for the 2026-2027 school year. As the school district’s Superintendent Fia Davis has implemented the theme “Welcome Back, Welcome Home,” before students got the chance to get reaccustomed to their classes, Davis met with the district’s newest teachers for New Teacher Orientation.

The orientation occurred a little over a week before the school year’s start on Sept. 2, with first- and second-year teachers arriving at the Caroline G. Atkinson Elementary School in Freeport  on Aug. 24 and 25.

The two days of programming focused on building connections, learning more about the district and preparing for a successful start to the school year. District administrators and leaders welcomed the teachers as they shared their excitement about the important role they play in the maturation and development of Freeport students.

Superintendent Davis emphasized to the teachers present that the impact educators have on students’ academic experiences extends to their futures.

“Every student deserves an educator who believes in their potential, challenges them to grow and creates a classroom where they feel valued and inspired,” Davis said. “As you begin this journey with Freeport Public Schools, know that you are joining a community committed to excellence, collaboration and the success of every student. Your ideas, energy and dedication will make a difference.”

Throughout the orientation, teachers participated in presentations and professional learning sessions covering district policies, procedures, resources and expectations. Sessions also focused on creating culturally responsive learning environments, preparing every student and continue building upon the relationships with colleagues.

The second-year teachers who participated in the program got the opportunity to reflect on their first year and strengthen their professional practice based on their experiences so far.

Freeport Public Schools proudly welcomes the contributions and growth of their new and returning students, teachers and other employees.
