Freeport’s Zion Cathedral Church of God in Christ, with the non-profit community organization Cedarmore Corporation, will be hosting the long anticipated return of the International Street Festival. The event will be hosted on the corners of 312 Grand Avenue and Bishop Frank O. White Avenue in Freeport.

This year’s festival, which will take place on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., marks the 28th such celebration that Zion Cathedral and the Cedarmore Corporation will be hosting. The beloved community tradition was a hallmark for many in the Freeport area year after year, prior to the Covid-19 global pandemic in 2020 when the event was postponed. The return of the festival for the first time since its postponement, represents the resilience and unbreakable spirit of the church community.

“The International Street Festival has always been a reflection of who we are, a diverse, vibrant and connected community,” senior pastor Bishop Frank A. White said of the event. “After several years apart, we are thrilled to welcome everyone back to celebrate not just culture, but togetherness, fellowship and joy.”

The street festival promises to bring quality entertainment for all ages, featuring a vibrant mix of international food, live music, cultural vendors and other family-friendly entertainment. Over 70 vendors will be offering their cuisines, jewelry and other crafted goods for attendees to peruse and purchase.

Additional entertainment will be provided in the form of bouncy houses, games and a DJ.

More than just a festival, this event serves as a bridge, bringing together people of different backgrounds, cultures and generations in a shared space. The church and non-profit hopes it helps further highlight the “beauty of diversity” while continuing to strengthen the bonds that make the Freeport community unique.

Vendor opportunities are still available for businesses, organizations or individual entrepreneurs to participate in. For information about registering to be a vendor or any further details about the International Street Festival, please contact festival@zioncathedral.org.
