The Sparkle on Stage Cultural Center began the run of its most recent play, “Steel Magnolias,” this month, which was well received by audience members. Tickets to see the play between Oct. 9 to 11 are available for all who are interested.
“Steel Magnolias” was originally a 1987 stage play created by writer Robert Harling. The story follows a group of women living in a small Louisiana community as they cope with the death of a shared love one. Harling’s own life experiences inspired his writing of the play, specifically the death of his sister.
Harling’s story gained more notoriety two years later, after Tri-Star Pictures produced a feature film of “Steel Magnolias,” starring actress Sally Field and the recently-deceased country singer Dolly Parton.
For the Sparkle on Stage rendition, Matthew Quinn directs and the theater’s owner, Robyn Workman, serves as the producer.
Shows on Oct. 9 at 8 p.m., Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. and Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. are on sale at sparkleonstage.org starting at $20 per person.
