In a class filled with stellar scholars and talented students, the newly named top 10 of Freeport High School’s Class of 2027 showcase some of the best of the school. Nearly four years of dedicated academic work and extra-curricular participation in high school, plus their prior schooling, has landed them the prestigious honor.
Freeport High School Interim Principal David Zimbler read the names of the students over the school’s loud speaker a little after 11 a.m. on Oct. 28. The students were congratulated by their peers, teachers, administrators and other members of the school community in the school’s Distanced Learning Center. The students were also provided an extensive breakfast spread that they got to enjoy with each other before heading back to class.
The top 10 of Freeport High School’s senior class in order from first to tenth are Isabella Freire-Rocha, Nicolas Pereira, Riann Stubbs, Angelique Picado, Dylan Marin, Kassandra Marroquin, Dylan Pigott, Sabrina Ligonde, Joseph Rodesno and Francessco Diaz.
“After four years of dedicated work at the Freeport High School, this is an honor that’s bestowed upon the top 10 of the Class of 2027,” Zimbler told the Herald. “Their academics shine through, but these children are involved in so many extracurricular activities, community service and are truly all above 100 [weighted] grade point average, which is an amazing task.”
Zimbler, who arrived at the school less than three months ago after Shomari Akil surprisingly resigned shortly after being hired, added that he has already been impressed by the love the entirety of the Class of 2027 have for their Freeport community.
Freire-Rocha will be the valedictorian of the Class of 2027, having earned a weighted grade point average of 109.247. She is closely followed by Pereira, the salutatorian, who has a 109.144 weighted average.
The top 10 will be formally presented to the Freeport Board of Education during a public meeting on Dec. 9 at the Caroline G. Atkinson Elementary School at 7:30 p.m. Relatives and loved ones will be reading the bios of each student.
