On May 11, Leo F. Gilbyn Elementary School students and staff welcomed participants of ALS Ride for Life during the organization’s annual visit to the school. Giblyn has held this partnership for 14 years, which helps raise awareness, foster compassion and support individuals and families affected by ALS.
Each fall, Ride for Life volunteers visit the school to speak with fourth-grade students about the organization and ALS. In the spring, students eagerly welcome the team during its annual ride, bringing the experience full circle while reinforcing the core values of perseverance and optimism that guide ALS Ride for Life’s mission.
“This annual visit from Ride for Life is one of the most meaningful traditions at Leo F. Giblyn,” said Giblyn Principal Amy Lederer. “Our students not only learn about ALS and the importance of compassion and service, but they also build genuine connections with the Ride for Life participants. We are incredibly proud of the empathy, generosity and support our school community continues to show year after year.”
As part of the visit, students proudly presented Ride for Life participants with a donation raised through the school’s annual Coin and Dollar Drive. Thanks to the generosity of students, staff and families, more than $2,000 is raised each year, contributing to an impressive total of more than $20,000 over the course of the entire partnership.
Students participated in a schoolwide musical presentation led by music teacher Shannon Abramovitz, while the Giblyn Step Team delivered a special performance. Fourth-grade students also showcased handmade banners in support of Ride for Life and those living with ALS.
