Freeport homeowners will have an opportunity to receive free, one-on-one assistance with property tax exemption applications when the Nassau County Department of Assessment's Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program, known as HELP, comes to the Freeport Memorial Library on Wednesday, July 15.

The workshop, hosted in partnership with Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé, will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Additional HELP sessions are scheduled for the Oceanside Library on Tuesday, July 14, and the Baldwin Public Library on Thursday, July 23, the latter in partnership with Nassau County Legislator Scott M. Davis.

During the workshops, Department of Assessment staff will help homeowners complete applications for a variety of property tax exemptions, including those available to veterans, senior citizens, Cold War veterans, volunteer firefighters, volunteer ambulance workers and residents with limited-income disabilities.

Staff will also process Enhanced STAR applications for homeowners who enrolled in the STAR program before Jan. 2, 2015.

Participants should arrive by 1:30 p.m. to allow enough time to complete their applications. Homeowners are asked to bring copies of their 2025 federal and state income tax returns, along with any additional documentation needed to verify eligibility.

"Not only can the HELP program provide you the expert assistance to complete your applications, it will also give you the chance to submit your completed forms right after you finish them and right in your community," Mulé said in a statement. "If you have questions about how to complete your applications, join us at one of our three workshops for hands-on assistance that will ensure you get every exemption that you qualify for."
