Hundreds of Roosevelt residents and surrounding community members got to partake in the first-ever Roosevelt Resource Night in Centennial Park. The event, hosted by the Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs, offered residents an opportunity to learn about the available health and social resources in their area.
Over 300 families attended the Roosevelt Resource Night on Sept. 15, as over a dozen community organizations based in Freeport, Roosevelt and elsewhere in Nassau County, met with the locals.
“It was a fantastic event,” Lionel Chitty, executive director of the Office of Minority Affairs told the Herald. “We had everything, services related to healthcare, family services, childcare, wellness, education and other central community driven resources.”
Chitty, who is a former Roosevelt resident, also praised the giving away of clothes and 300 bookbags filled with school supplies as helpful for students getting adjusted to a new school year this fall. Social activities and food were also available during the evening to all.
Collaborating with the Office of Minority Affairs to host the Roosevelt Resource Night were the Nassau County’s Parks and Recreation and Bureau of Health Access departments.
Additional participating agencies included Harmony Health, Choice for All, Four Leaf Federal Credit Union, the Freeport-Roosevelt NAACP branch, Zion Cathedral Social Action Ministry and many more.
Chitty told the Herald that future resource nights are in development in other Nassau communities and their remains committed interest in having repeat events or additional ones of this nature in Roosevelt.
