County executive Bruce Blakeman gives public safety announcement in Freeport

Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman, along with representatives from the Nassau County Police Department and Fire Marshall’s Office, will provide a public safety update today ahead of the Memorial Day weekend. This briefing will include preparations for the upcoming Jones Beach Air Show.

Blakeman will also call on residents to observe a county-wide moment of silence in honor of Memorial Day. He encourages all residents to pause for 50 seconds at 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Memorial Day, pulling over safely if driving, to honor fallen American heroes. NICE Bus services will also halt for 50 seconds at these times.

At 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm, fire houses and emergency service vehicles across the county will sound their sirens and horns, and churches in the Diocese of Rockville Centre will ring their bells, reminding residents to remember our nation's fallen heroes.

Blakeman seeks emphasize the importance of reflecting on the true meaning of Memorial Day and honoring the sacrifices of our servicemen and women.
