The students of Ready Set Grow Learning Academy got to enjoy a special end of summer treat in the form of the academy’s annual “Carnaval” celebration. The event served as an opportunity to reward the children for their good work during the academy’s summer programs.
During the Aug. 28 Carnaval, the students, which come from Freeport, Merrick, Rockville Centre, Roosevelt and Baldwin families, got to enjoy a magic show, face painting, an ice cream truck and more outdoor activities.
“The goal was to celebrate the end of summer accomplishments and achievements for the summer campers, as well as for the daycare” Daryl Harris, the founder of Ready Set Grow, said. “We’ve had a science fair, we’ve had math challenges, which some students received awards… we gave spelling tests, we have robotics.”
Ready Set Grow Learning Academy, which is located on Babylon Turnpike in Freeport on the village’s Freeport Armory property, serves children from ages 18 months to 12 years.
“We try to make sure that we’re keeping students engaged and also flexible with the current technologies and the new things that are taking place,” Harris further explained. “We’re putting them in an environment where they can be challenged and also inspired to excel.”
The academy was founded four years ago by Harris and his wife Chelisa, who he said is particularly passionate about the maturation of the children, along with the rest of their staff.
“This daycare is her passion, it’s only here because of her, and I’m just here to support and see if we can help it to grow,” he said.
Harris told the Herald that the academy is looking to expand its reach to Freeport residents and other nearby communities through social media and other ventures to continue expanding Ready Set Grows services and experiences.
