Roosevelt man charged with firearm possession in North Merrick

A Roosevelt man was arrested in North Merrick after Nassau County police said he was found carrying a loaded firearm while standing in the roadway on June 15.

According to detectives, officers responded to Elsie Avenue near Meadowbrook Road at about 9:30 a.m. for a report of a person impeding traffic. Upon arrival, officers found Naggie Ford, 21, of Roosevelt, acting irrationally in the roadway and removed him from the area.

During their investigation, officers discovered Ford was in possession of a loaded silver handgun, police said. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Ford was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to be arraigned June 16 in First District Court in Hempstead.
