Long Island-based liquor company Rocavaka has formed a charitable partnership that will help sell cases of limited edition vodka with a portion of the sales going to Tunnel to Towers, a charity organization focused on serving veterans and the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorists attacks. Various stores, including one in Freeport, will be participating in the long-term fundraiser.
Rocavaka has been selling their branded vodka for over three years, distilling its product in Madrid, Spain, before dispersing it for sales in Long Island, New York City and New Jersey. During its short existence, Rocavaka has begun to make a name for itself, winning eight taste awards, according to the company’s website.
The liquor company has turned that early success into a way to give back to vulnerable populations locally, starting in Freeport.
“Every case that we sell [to retailers], $30 will go towards T2T [Tunnel to Towers],” Sue Anne Konkle, a Rocavaka sales representative said.
Those interested in supporting the initiative can visit the Liquor Warehouse of Freeport or its website to purchase bottles of the Tunnel to Towers themed vodka, which are currently listed at about $29 a bottle before taxes. Cases of bottles are being sold for $174 before taxes.
“I approached Boris [Yampolskiy], the owner of the store in Freeport,” Konkle explained. “I know a few of his customers, and they actually were hoping to get the bottle there so they could purchase the bottle. And when I approached Boris, he was very willing to place an order.”
Konkle added that the goal for Rocavaka is to build on the donations they have already made to Tunnel to Towers. There first donation totaled $10,000 and was presented to the organization back in June of this year.
“It’s just super important what they do for all the veterans and first responders,” Konkle said of Tunnel to Towers. “I had friends in those towers, and when the foundation started from that tragedy, it’s just amazing what they have been doing locally…and what they are doing nationally.”
She went on to praise the organization for its work in establishing medical facilities and apartments for homeless veterans and others who have been in dire need of resources.
Other Freeport businesses, including Nunzi's By The Water and The Helm Bar, have also supported the effort by purchasing cases of the vodka and serving it at their establishments.
Rocavaka hopes to continue building more partnerships with other liquor stores, as well as receive some support from local fire departments so they can sell out their limited edition bottles and continue supporting Tunnel to Towers, which has raised billions of dollars for its support of countless individuals who were impacted the terror attacks 25 years ago.
