Washington Rose Elementary School will soon have a new digital sign after the Nassau County Legislature approved more than $40,000 in funding to replace the school’s outdated sign, improving the district’s ability to communicate with students, families and the Roosevelt community.
The Nassau County Legislature unanimously approved a $40,129.52 Community Revitalization Project grant on July 27, secured by Legislator Scott M. Davis. The funding will pay for a high-resolution outdoor marquee to replace the school’s current sign, which is no longer functioning. County documents indicate the grant covers the purchase of the marquee and related equipment needed for its installation.
District officials said the new marquee will provide a more effective way to share information about school events, important announcements and emergency notifications with parents and residents.
“This funding represents more than a facilities upgrade; it is an investment in communication, connection and community pride,” Roosevelt Union Free School District Superintendent Shawn K. Wightman said. “Washington Rose Elementary School is an important part of the Roosevelt community, and this new marquee will help ensure families, students, staff and residents remain informed, engaged and connected to the life of the school.”
Wightman thanked Davis for securing the funding, saying the project will strengthen communication between the school and community.
Davis said schools serve as community hubs and that digital marquees have become an important tool for sharing information.
”Nassau County schools are vibrant community hubs, and contemporary high-tech marquees are a quick and effective way to succinctly share information about school events, and when necessary, emergencies impacting the area,” Davis said. “I am glad that my colleagues voted unanimously to provide these funds to the Roosevelt School District and support their efforts to foster greater community engagement and awareness.”
