The halls and classrooms of the Glen Cove City School District came alive Sept. 2 as students returned for the first day of the 2026-27 school year, greeting friends, meeting teachers and settling into new routines. From the district’s elementary schools to Robert M. Finley Middle School and Glen Cove High School, the morning brought the familiar mix of excitement, smiles and first-day jitters as students began another year of learning and growing. Teachers and staff had spent the previous two days preparing for their arrival during Superintendent’s Conference Days, and the district welcomed students from prekindergarten through 12th grade with the school year officially underway. For elementary students, the first day included an early dismissal, giving young learners a chance to ease into the new school-year routine. Across the district, the first day marked a fresh start — and the beginning of another year of memories, friendships and milestones.
