Zoom into Shtark Contrast’s ‘iMac Beth’

Posted

Shtark Contrast, a Five Towns-based nonprofit theater company, is performing its third play since June, “iMac Beth” on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. over Zoom.

The play described as “the original political theatre AKA not CNN/FOX” is  William Shakespeare’s Scottish play “abridged, ad-libbed, abused, and infused with contemporary cultural Easter Eggs in honor of, well, Halloween.”

“Our Zoom theater -- presented as a webinar because what's in a name, will allow the audience to ask questions and challenges them to find the hidden references as they get a crash and burn course in Macbeth ... or at least something that started out that way,” Jennifer Lanter, Shtark Contrast’s artistic director said in a news release.

Earlier this year, the troupe performed “12 Incompetent Jurors” and “By Candlelight.” Pre-Covid they performed live at Rock Hall Museum and Peninsula Public Library, both in Lawrence.

Shtark Contrast is fully self-supported and aiming to “fund raise and find lovely benefactors when the timing is appropriate, so that we may truly service the community, and be a place for creativity, collaboration, and coexistence,” Lanter stated.
