Business owners, elected officials and community members came together outside Sea Cliff’s Sol Vibration for the wellness center’s grand opening July 22. The wellness center, owned by Salon Solis owner Graciela Bustos and Antigone Rising guitarist Cathy Henderson, opened on May 8.
Bustos held a brief meditation session to start the ribbon cutting ceremony. Village Trustee and Business Liaison Mark Sobel introduced elected officials to speak.
Mayor Elena Villafane and Sea Cliff trustees, Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck, Assemblyman Charles Lavine, Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, Nassau County Comptroller Elaine Phillips and representatives on behalf of Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and County Executive Bruce Blakeman attended the ribbon cutting.
Among classes and services offered at Sol Vibration by 20 instructors and practitioners, including Bustos and Henderson, are yoga, Tai Chi, sound healing and Reiki, a Japanese form of energy healing.
Henderson described the wellness center as “everchanging and evolving.”
“It’s really a co-creation with us and the other teachers,” she said, “as well as the community.”
Landlord Eugene Alletto approached Bustos nine months prior to the center’s opening, when he told her the space at 316 Sea Cliff Ave. would be available. Bustos and Henderson had been holding monthly sound healing sessions at Salon Solis for roughly six months before the opportunity to open Sol Vibration presented itself. The owners said that Alletto had a vision for a wellness center, and so did they.
Bustos said that with the sound healing at the salon, Sol Vibration came alive before she and Henderson moved into the physical space. She added that they would like to hold retreats in the future and work with practitioners outside the United States virtually.
“We want to share and show people ‘you can dream,’” Bustos said.
Henderson and Bustos have connected with the Sea Cliff Senior Outreach Network and are working with local daycare centers and pediatricians to offer more specialized services for seniors and children. Discounts are available for seniors and first responders.
Both owners emphasized that Sol Vibration is not just a business, it is built from the heart. Bustos said that an experience in the space is about finding peace and being open.
“When you put expectations,” she said, “you close the gate to the beauty.”
Bustos and Henderson added that they want to encourage people to get to know their inner selves.
“When you are connected to that peace, and you can bring that into your own life and into the world, that’s the vibration that will ripple out,” Henderson said. “And when more and more people are coming from that calm, clear, peaceful space inside, this society changes.”
Sol Vibration offers both group and individual sessions. Through the summer, the owners have invited class participants to bring a guest. They plan to extend the two-for-one through Labor Day.
