Community rallies to provide masks to Oceanside seniors

Community members recently teamed together with State Sen. Todd Kaminsky to deliver surgical masks to residents at the Bishop Kellenberg Gardens Senior Center in Oceanside.

"Our seniors are an at-risk population for contracting this virus, so it is critical we do all we can to ensure they have access to masks to help keep them safe and healthy," Kaminsky said in a statement. "I am thankful for the outpouring of support from our community and for donating much-needed supplies for our senior residents."

The donation was just the latest example of members of the community rallying together to help those in need amid the coronavirus pandemic. There have been several instances of residents making masks for medical workers, providing meals to first responders and front-line hospital workers, lifting one another's spirits with drive-by birthday parades and supporting local businesses.

As New York works to slow the spread of the coronavirus, it is critical that first responders, healthcare workers and essential personnel have access to personal protective equipment in order to do their jobs safely and effectively.
