The East Meadow Public Library will transform into a hub of anime, cosplay and pop culture this coming weekend as EMCon AnimeFest returns for a two-day celebration. The family-friendly event, set for April 25 and 26, will feature live performances, hands-on workshops and special guests from the entertainment world. From professional voice actors to local cosplay creators, the festival aims to offer something for fans of all ages. Activities will take place throughout the library, with many events requiring in-person registration.

1. Star power and live entertainment at this weekend’s event

The festival will feature a mix of live entertainment and special guest appearances, highlighted by Emmy Award–winning performer Leslie Carrara-Rudolph. Best known for bringing Abby Cadabby to life on “Sesame Street,” Carrara-Rudolph will meet fans during a session on April 25 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Community Room. Later that day, performer Robin Channing, known as “The Mind Bender,” will present a show blending magic, mentalism and psychological illusion from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The weekend will also include a live concert by Eternal HOSHI on April 26 from 3 to 4 p.m., featuring high-energy performances inspired by popular anime music and fan-favorite songs.

2. Cosplay takes center stage for adults and local youth

Cosplay will play a central role throughout the weekend, with opportunities for both beginners and experienced participants to get involved. A kids cosplay contest for ages 7 to 11 will take place April 25 from 3 to 4 p.m., giving younger fans a chance to showcase their creativity. The main cosplay contest will continue into April 26, with judging scheduled from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Registration will be held in person across both days. In addition to competitions, attendees can meet cosplay creator Rizuki during a workshop titled “Pls Cosplay w/Me,” scheduled for April 25 from 1 to 2 p.m., where participants can collaborate and learn more about building character-inspired looks.

3. Look ahead to hands-on workshops and fan experiences

Beyond performances and contests, EMCon AnimeFest will offer interactive workshops designed to bring fans deeper into the creative process. The “From Concept to Costume: 3D Cosplay Studio” session on April 25 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. will guide participants through techniques for designing and constructing detailed costume pieces using hands-on methods. Many events will take place in the library’s Makerspace, emphasizing creativity and skill-building. Running from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 25, with additional programming on April 26, the festival will feature activities across multiple rooms. Organizers are encouraging early registration for select sessions, as space may be limited.
