St. Anthony’s Feast 5K returns to Oceanside with new Kids Dash

Posted

Oceanside’s only annual road race will return Saturday, June 13, as the St. Anthony’s Feast 5K welcomes runners, walkers and families for a morning of fitness and community spirit before one of the area’s largest summer celebrations.

Hosted by the St. Anthony’s Fathers Club in conjunction with the annual St. Anthony’s Feast, the Family Fun Run/Walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. from St. Anthony’s Church on Anchor Avenue. New this year, organizers are adding a Kids Dash at 8:30 a.m., giving younger participants an opportunity to take part before the main event.

The race has become a popular tradition since it was established in 2019 as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the St. Anthony’s Feast. While the course attracts competitive runners looking to post fast times, organizers emphasize that the event is designed for participants of all ages and abilities.

The flat, fast course welcomes serious runners, casual walkers, families with strollers and even dogs accompanied by their owners. Participants will start at the parish and head south on Fulton Avenue before looping through nearby residential streets, including Moore, Messick, Yost and Oceanlea avenues, then returning via Lawrence Avenue, Vermont Street and Fulton Avenue.

Residents are advised that traffic will be affected during the race as runners make their way through the neighborhood.

Early registration costs $30 for participants ages 18 and older and $20 for those 17 and younger. Registration fees increase closer to race day. The first 200 registrants are guaranteed a commemorative race T-shirt. All participants will also receive $5 in “Feast Bucks,” which can be used toward select food and beverage purchases during the feast.

Awards for top finishers in various age groups will be presented later that evening at the feast.

The race serves as a kickoff to the four-day St. Anthony’s Feast, which annually draws as many as 15,000 visitors. The event is the church’s largest fundraiser and features carnival rides, live entertainment, games, food vendors and activities for all ages.

Festivalgoers can expect a wide variety of offerings, including meatball subs, pizza, homemade zeppoles and other traditional favorites. Sponsors and parish organizations will also host booths featuring family-friendly activities throughout the event.

Organizers say the race and feast reflect the community-minded mission of the St. Anthony’s Fathers Club, which was founded nearly 13 years ago to support the parish while creating opportunities for fathers to connect and serve alongside their children. In addition to organizing the 5K, the club sponsors service projects, outdoor movie nights and other community events throughout the year.
